Respected travel expert Simon Calder to feature in interactive webinar for WTM Global Hub

WTM Global Hub – WTM Portfolio’s new online portal – will host a webinar on April 30 with renowned British travel journalist and broadcaster Simon Calder.

Called ‘Travel Update with Simon Calder’, the virtual event will offer attendees the chance to hear his expert views about the impact of COVID-19 on travel and tourism.

Calder is Senior Travel Editor at The Independent and a familiar face on TV, giving informed advice to consumers about the travel industry. He has more than 75,000 followers on Twitter and shares travel news and opinion daily on Facebook and Instagram platforms.

During the webinar, he will share his unique insights and knowledge to analyse the response of travel companies during this crisis. He will also outline possible recovery strategies for different sectors – ranging from cruise and aviation to hotels and travel agents.

He will be interviewed by travel journalist Lisa Francesca Nand, who is also the presenter of the travel podcast, WTM Insights.

Furthermore, there will be an opportunity to pose questions during the webinar to ask for Calder’s authoritative perspective on these unprecedented challenges in tourism.

Claude Blanc, WTM Portfolio Director, said: “Simon is one of the world’s most respected travel journalists, so this webinar offers the WTM community a value opportunity to get his perceptive and knowledgeable guidance doing this crisis.

“He is also a keen supporter and attendee of WTM London, which gives the WTM portfolio’s stakeholders a diverse range of opportunity to ask B2B travel questions as well.

“With news from some countries about lockdown measures being eased, it will be productive for attendees to learn about potential roadmaps for different destinations and sectors.

“The webinar also demonstrates our resolute commitment to offer rich, compelling virtual events to keep us all connected.”

Launched on April 23, WTM Global Hub aims to support travel industry professionals around the world.

Travel Update with Simon Calder’ starts at 2pm BST on April 30 and will be the second webinar on the resource platform. The first will be a webinar on April 28 by Oxford Economics – a leader in global forecasting and quantitative analysis – with a focus on the situation in Europe.

The third webinar will feature Nick Hall, founder of the Digital Tourism Think Tank, speaking with Jeremy Jauncey – the founder and Chief Executive of travel website Beautiful Destinations, and an expert on social media and content creation.

WTM Portfolio – the parent brand for WTM London, WTM Latin America, Arabian Travel Market, WTM Africa, Travel Forward and other key travel trade events – is tapping into its global network of experts to create exceptional content for the hub.

Part of the Global Hub content will be provided in Spanish and Portuguese by WTM Latin America, which will also be adding Latin American webinars.

Along with interactive webinars, other content from industry experts includes podcasts; a library of videos; blogs; responsible tourism and travel technology news; and ‘Your Travel Community’, featuring positive updates from travel professionals about how they are supporting the industry and others.
