Discover new perspectives

In Interlaken, yodelling choirs and national-costume groups are a natural part of any fest. Listening to the perfectly pitched voices and watching the nimble-footed dancers, it’s easy to forget that a lot of work goes on behind the folklore scenes. This work can now be seen: from September to November, singers, dancers, flag throwers and alphorn players invite you to visit their rehearsals and get a glimpse backstage.

Right next to the Panorama Restaurant, a tunnel leads to the new panorama platform in the Stockhon north face. The spectacular new vantage platform with a glass floor provides some thrilling moments. It offers up a magnificent unimpaired view of Thun, Lake Thun, the Aare and Gurbe valley, the Swiss central plateau through to the Jura and, on clear days, right to the southern Black Forest..

How did Thun’s coat of arms get its golden star? The Thun audio guide gives the answer to this and many other questions. Guests can tour the old town with a smartphone or tablet PC and uncover much hidden history.

Secured to a climbing rope, adventure addicts launch themselves into the depths from an 85 metre high metal platform. But there’s no need to fear an abrupt braking effect; further forward the rope is attached to a transverse steel cable that transfers the energy of the fall into a forward pendulum motion. The jumper on the rope swings through the Grindelwald Glacier Gorge at a breathtaking speed.

Turn an ordinary excursion into a genuine experience with a guided hike or sightseeing tour in the company of a local guide. It’s a great opportunity to to peek behind the facades of ancient walls and embrace local traditions. Whether it’s out in the wild, down a side street steeped in history or in a delightful chalet village, the stories, anecdotes and history of the Interlaken holiday region are all waiting to be discovered.

On the first Advent weekend, Aenderdorf — the oldest part of Brienz — is transformed into a romantic Christmas landscape with pretty little wooden houses, the aromatic fragrance of mulled wine and — hopefully — some gentle snowflakes. Artists and craftsmen offer their carefully created wares for sale, local people meet to chat and children enjoy an exciting ride on the carousel.
